Yuvraj and Harbhajan Singh returns to T20 World Cup

MUMBAI: Yuvraj Singh has been named in India’s squad for the Twenty20 World Cup, which will be played in Sri Lanka in September.

A delighted Yuvraj tweeted. Can't explain how I feel!" Yuvraj wrote. Feels like I'm going to play for India for 1st time. It is special day for me. When I was diagnose with cancer I always thought my heart one day I will come back and play for India. I can't wait to step on the field and wave the Indian flag.

He left-handed batsman, who underwent successful chemotherapy for a rare germ cell cancer, was improving at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore and was consider to have recovered enough to be included in the side.

We really appreciate the kind of effort he has put in. It is a great factor from Indian crickets point of view. It is great to have him in the team. With this kind of mixture we will have a great chance of winning the Twenty20 World Cup,” said Chairman of Selectors K. Srikkanth.

A pleasant surprise was also in store for Harbhajan Singh as the woefully out-of-form off-spinner was handed a Twenty20 berth. Harbhajan lost his place in the team during last year tour of England and then fell out of favor as R. Ashwin to prominence.

Yuvraj inclusion, however, was not unanimous as the 30-year-old has not played in any viable cricket for the past 9 months. He had last played international cricket against the West Indies in the 2nd Test at Kolkata last November.

Also on the return trail was medium-pacer L. Balaji - out of reckoning for 3 years - who was built-in on the back of astral performances for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL-V.

We are confident that our squad will be very spirited and make South Africa proud. We have had mostly the same squad together for the past year and many of them also shaped stand-out performance at the (Indian Premier League) CSA selection convener Andrew Hudson said.

In an effort to gain some valuable match do ahead of the global showpiece, the same 15-man squad will play a 3-match T20 series in England next month.

The Proteus will also have superb preparation for the World Twenty20 by final the England tour with 3 matches. They may be playing on a different outside to that they will find in Sri Lanka but they will be able to hone their T20 specific skills, Hudson added.

Vettori Injured doubtful for India tour

Wellington

Former New Zea land captain Daniel Vettori has only a 10 per cent chance of being well for upcoming test and T20 tour of India.

The left-arm spinner withdrew from the 2nd test against the West Indies in Jamaica due to a right adductor injure and flew home.

The 1st of the 2 tests, at Hyderabad, begins on August 23 and Captain Ross Taylor indicated this morning that it would almost certainly be too shortly for Vettori.

New Zealand plays 2 T20s in India, on September 9 and 11 before start their world cup campaign with a clash against Bangladesh at Pallekele on September 21.

He's a 90 per cent chance that he won't be there, so we have got to look forward to considering how the next spinner gets on over there, Taylor said from Jamaica.

Taylor didn't confirm that his Central Districts coworker Tarun Nethula was that next spinner, with the team to travel to India motionless to be named, Sport24 information.

But he rejected any view that Vettori was a used up force at test level.

Taylor said the left-arm spinner remains an integral part of the team and his bowling form did not worry him.

Vettori retired from international T20 cricket last year, in an effort to prolong his test career, but has made himself available for the upcoming T20 world cup in Sri Lanka.
