Andrew Strauss admitted England’s batsmen were caught cold by the brilliance of Pakistan’s bowling and called for his team to show “character and resilience” when the series shifts to Abu Dhabi next week to start and the Strauss made no excuses for his team’s abject performance in their first Test defeat as the world’s best side after a batting performance that resurrected doubts about English batsmen ability to cope with high-quality spin bowling.
England bounced back brilliantly from their last Test defeat in Perth against Australia 13 months ago, to win their next two matches by an innings and the strauss will draw on that experience as the team prepare for the 2nd Test of this series, but this situation is different to a England had already beaten Australia in Adelaide and saw Perth as a freak result.
England also knew they would not play on a pitch as bouncy as the WACA again whereas in Abu Dhabi they will face the same conditions they struggled with in Dubai and have little time to work out a method against Saeed Ajmal and he is the man of the match for 1st test.
